Hugo Recommendations
This is not official
What you see on this page is not in any way accredited by WSFS or the
current Worldcon. This is a collection of suggestions from private individuals.
The objective of this page is to give you ideas for nominees. If nothing
else it should provide you with some very good reading. But of course
the people who post suggestions here are hoping that you will nominate
the following items for Hugos.
Confused about the process?
For a Hugo Award FAQ, click here. For details
of the various award categories, click here.
And for an explanation of the voting system, click
here. When contributing to this list, most people stick to the official
nomination rules and limit themselves to 5 entries in each category.
Don't take our word for it
Please don't nominate a work or person just because you have seen it
mentioned here. Read some of the material (or watch it or whatever). Your
vote is supposed to be your opinion, not those of other people.
Other recommendation sites
This is not the only site that recommends Hugo-worthy works. Here are
some others you might try:
For a list of writers eligible for the John W. Campbell Award for Best
New Writer, see the award's official web
site.
Thanks to the Bay Area
Science Fiction Association for providing a forum for discussion of
Hugo nominations. Many of the people whose recommendations appear here
are BASFA members.
You can see previous years' recommendations on the following pages:
How to nominate
In order to actually nominate (as opposed to just making recommendations
here) you need to be a member of TorCon 3 or Noreascon 4. Nominations
will officially open in January or thereabouts.
How to add your recommendation
If you want to add recommendations to this list, simply email the webmistress
giving your name, the works you want added and the categories for which
they are eligible. Every effort will be made to check that recommendations
go into the correct category. Please note that just because something
has already been added it doesn't mean that you can't recommend it too.
Indeed, the more people recommend an item, the more impressive it is going
to look.
The Emerald City recommendation list
Links are given to Emerald City reviews where available. For online
short stories a link to the actual story is given. For online fanzines
and their editors links are given to their web sites. For artists links
are given to their personal web sites.
As a result of a decision of the Business Meeting at the 2003 Worldcon
all works published outside of the USA in 2002 are eligible for the 2003
Hugo Awards. Recommendations that qualify under this one-off special rule
are marked with a *.
